Interview with best-selling author Jenny Teeters
Looking back, how does it feel knowing Every Day is a New Day has been out in the world for almost a whole year?
It feels great because I can look at the discipline and courage it took to complete the book and use that evidence to boost me into encouraged action for today's goals. Whenever I try to do things on my own, Every Day is a New Day reminds me that I had Coach Raven, Jennifer Grace, Raven & Grace Press and my executive coach, Dr. Darlene Chambers to support me in the project.
What have you been up to? What’s changed since the book came out?
Since the book came out, I left a 30-year career in leadership to devote more time to Catholic in Recovery, my coaching practice, my motivational speaking business, and my super fun love for sharing Mary Kay beauty cosmetics.
I believe in building the lives we want, and layering all of the things I love into my life brings about a tremendous amount of fulfillment - and faith!
What’s the most surprising or unexpected reaction you’ve gotten from a reader so far?
The most unexpected reaction is readers immediately thinking of their friends and loved ones who the book may be able to support. I've received letters of hope from mothers who are powerlessly watching their children suffer - those letters touch me the most.
If Every Day is a New Day had a theme song, what would it be and why?
"The Summons" by John L. Bell, which I name in my book is the theme song and also my soul's anthem.
Do you have a favorite quote or passage from the book that still resonates with you today?
My favorite passage that reveals the desperation I had also was the catalyst to my recovery, renewal, transformation and reinvention.
"It was on November 12, 2019, that I received the gift of desperation and completely surrendered myself to God. I prayed that I was powerless over alcohol and that my life was unmanageable - Step 1. I prayed that only a power greater than myself could restore me to sanity - Step 2. I prayed and gave my will and my life over to the care of God as I understood him - Step 3. I begged and prayed for Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 over and over until I eventually went to sleep.”
What’s something fun or totally random that’s happened as a result of publishing your book?
As a result of publishing my book, I have led several retreats speaking about recovery and had the exciting experience of several television interviews.
How have you personally changed or grown since the book released? Is there a “new day” moment that stands out?
I continue to grow as a full time entrepreneur, and the next 'new day' that stands out was in December of 2024 when I gave my resignation letter to a great boss at a great company, with a great salary, great coworkers, and great benefits.
Before writing the book, I was feeling a tug toward entrepreneurship and amplifying the power of Jesus to heal and transform every aspect of our lives. I took a leap of faith to pursue being of service more deeply and to fully express myself.
Has your writing process evolved since publishing the book? Are there any new creative habits or routines you suggest to other writers?
My writing process has evolved in my own journaling. I've removed the filter of 'what if someone reads this' to express and surprise myself with my innermost thoughts and dreams. I write love letters to myself from God, and I write about my dreams and struggles. This process helps direct my path on services I offer and to whom.
What’s next for you—any new words, projects, or dreams brewing for 2025-26?
My word of 2025 is ASCEND. My new projects are to bring talks to corporations/organizations about employee obstacles like addiction, and the benefits of a recovery-friendly workplace.
I have also completed the framework and launched a powerful new coaching program called ASCEND designed for corporate leaders at a point of their reinvention and transformation.
I am on target to complete the manuscript for my next book early 2026 (you are the first to know!), and I am staying grounded in service to Catholic in Recovery, the Tepeyac Leadership Institute, and my community.
